“Piel” is the name of this group exhibition of eight visual artists from the Outaouais region and eight Chilean artists. In its first phase, the exhibit was inaugurated March 14, 2006 in the Contemporary Art Museum of the Universidad Austral de Valdivia, Chile.

The sixteen artists confront and explore from distinct perspectives and idiosyncrasies the age-old theme of “skin”, intervening in the exhibit’s first phase in the symbolic site of Valdivia’s former Anwandter brewery, which opened its doors to this new Chile-Canada initiative bringing together the two extremities of the Americas.

“Piel” is an artistic reflection of this territory of convergence and of differences that each being possesses. It is the artistic transposition of this space that is claimed by everyone and appropriated by no-one. An exploration of the signs of identity that can unite or confront this globalized world, which is experiencing diversity as never before in our history, fueled by the desire for equality.
